A Blue Thread
Earlier this year I stepped away from my traditional, representational photography practice to experiment with Cyanotype, a historical photographic process in which non-toxic, light-sensitive emulsion turns an intoxicating Prussian blue when exposed to the sun. This new work is radically different from my other projects. It’s painterly and loose, more hands-on, gestural and immediate. I’m captivated by the mysterious images I can create from the same native weeds and wildflowers I had been photographing with a camera lens. I feel newly intimate with my materials and process, touching everything from start to finish without the intervention of machines.
